DBS Certificates & Safeguarding Training

DBS Certificates

The Church welcomes everyone, including those who are vulnerable and those who may pose a risk to vulnerable people. St John’s therefore commits to safely recruiting and supporting all staff and volunteers who have any responsibility related to children, young people and vulnerable adults who attend Church activities.

Some roles require the volunteer to have a DBS (Disclosure & Barring) certificate to record any disqualification to apply for role. You will be informed by the PSC whether this is the case. The PSC will then provide details of how you can complete the online DBS application and provide the necessary identity verification documentation.

Three pieces of documentation are required to be viewed by the PSC. A current passport and driving licence are two such documents, or for more advice about appropriate documentation, see: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/documents-the-applicant-must-provide

Safeguarding Training

The Church of England requires everyone who works with children, young people and vulnerable adults to attend safeguarding training every three years. Approved training courses are held around the Diocese.

Periodically, these courses are run at St John’s which are open to all and advertised via St John’s weekly email.
