Baptism & Thanksgiving

Baptism is a public statement of faith, an opportunity to share our love for Jesus and choice to follow Him. We want to celebrate these incredible moments as one Church, gathering together to support and delight in each individual’s decision to love God.

  • Baptism is a joyful celebration and a significant step in a child’s journey of faith marking God’s love and grace. Through infant baptism, we welcome each child into the church family, trusting in God’s promises for them. As a church, we commit to walking alongside them and their family, offering love, support, and encouragement as they grow in faith.

At St John’s, parents and godparents make promises to raise their child in the Christian faith. Because baptism involves deep commitments, we ask families to make a connection with the church prior to baptism, and to meet with a member of our clergy to explore the meaning of baptism and prepare for the service.

Baptisms take place on the first Sunday of the month during our 10am all age service.

  • Infant Thanksgiving is a special service where families gather to give thanks to God for the gift of a new child. It’s a time to celebrate new life, offer prayers of gratitude, and dedicate the child to God’s care. As a church we welcome your child/ren into the church family and invite the community to support and bless your family’s journey of faith.

Thanksgivings take place on the first Sunday of the month during our 10am service. If you would like to explore a thanksgiving service please make contact with the church and arrange to meet with a member of the clergy to further explore this life event.

  • Adult baptism is a profound and meaningful step in a person's journey of faith. At our church, we believe that baptism is an outward expression of an inward transformation, a public declaration of a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ. For adults, baptism represents a conscious commitment to leave behind an old way of life and embrace a new identity rooted in God's grace and truth. It's a powerful symbol of dying to sin and being raised to new life in Christ, just as He was raised from the dead.

Whether you're new to Christianity or have been walking with God for some time, choosing to be baptised as an adult is a significant step of obedience and trust. We invite you to take this step when you feel ready. There are several ways to prepare for baptism, including attending Alpha or 321 courses, as well as baptism preparation sessions we offer at the church. If you're interested in being baptised, please contact the church office to arrange a meeting with a member of the clergy to explore baptism further.
