Being Blessed in our Giving

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
— Acts 20:35

We certainly felt blessed in our giving when Debby and I delivered some flowers, eggs and crosses to two of our local Care Homes last week.

It’s not always easy knowing when is best to knock on a Care Home door – staff can be very busy or taken up with drug rounds or tied up in other ways, but on this occasion, it seemed that God had prepared the way and given us perfect timing.

Rebecca, the Manager at The Field House, welcomed us with open arms – albeit in a socially-distanced way and on the doorstep! She then called as many staff members as she could find for a photo shoot!

At the Kenrick Centre, one of the staff members who was often present at our monthly services there (pre-Covid) came out to chat and catch us up on the news. She was joined by the Head of Housekeeping who not only assured Debby that her flowers would be well cared for but described how much she and the others appreciate the regular cake deliveries.

‘When your cakes arrive, I always get the best china out and buy some serviettes and the staff love it!’

Then she put in an order for her favourite ‘squidgy apple cake’!

We are all aware of how difficult a time this has been for Care Home staff and residents, and although restrictions are beginning to lift, visits are still very limited, and staff remain understandably cautious. With the help of some amazing volunteers, it has been a privilege to support them throughout the year - through prayer and through regular deliveries of gifts and spiritual resources.
