People living in a foreign country can face all sorts of challenges: different language, different food, different dress code – even a different sense of humour. Yet the biggest challenge is the pressure to fit in and assimilate with the surrounding culture, and so run the risk of losing their distinct identity. This was and remains the challenge for Christians that Peter addresses in his first letter, as the threat encompasses Christians’ very identity. In this sermon series we’ll learn how to live distinctively as God’s people in 21st century Birmingham in the midst of what is often a hostile culture.
