Good Friday Meditation
A time to stop, to be quiet and to focus our minds on the one who died for us.
Join us as we spend time in prayer and meditation, reading scriptures and giving praise to Jesus.
We will be looking and reflecting on some key moments in the life of Jesus and his ministry in the lead up to his crucifixion.

All Age Good Friday
We’ll be using all of our senses to engage with the events leading up to Good Friday, with our interactive gathering for all ages, there will even be a chance to share hot cross buns together!
Here is a list of the items you should be able to gather from around your home so you’re ready to join us online.
Things you need:
A bowl or bucket, about the size of a washing up bowl, filled with warm water and a towel (you could put some bath oil or bubble bath in your water if you like!).
A cup of red wine vinegar (or any kind of vinegar, or bitter tasting drink will do).
A tealight or candle for each person.
A piece of cloth big enough to be torn by each person, or individual pieces for each person.
Hot cross buns.

Maundy Thursday
An opportunity to share an agape meal as we reflect on Jesus inaugurating “The Kingdom Meal”.

Maundy Thursday - CANCELLED
This event has currently been cancelled due to Covid-19.

Ash Wednesday
Come and join us for a simple reflective service as we mark the beginning of the season of Lent with our Ash Wednesday service. We will gather to worship, to hear God’s word and to focus our hearts on repentance and prayer. During the service there will be an opportunity to receive the sign of the cross, the imposition of Ashes, as an act of confession and turning to God. Once again we are being hosted by our friends at Oasis Church, South Street. Please note there will be no refreshments at this service.

#LiveLent Daily Challenges throughout Lent
This year, St John’s will be joining in with the Church of England’’s fantastic #LiveLent series.
#LiveLent: Care for God's Creation is the Church of England's Lent Campaign for 2020. It has been inspired and informed by the Archbishop of Canterbury's 2020 Lent Book, Saying Yes to Life by Ruth Valerio (SPCK).
For the 40 days of Lent there is a daily challenge to help you honour and treasure the earth, plus weekly short prayers and Bible readings on creation themes. You can do this on your own, as a family and join with friends and the wider church for some of the challenges.
For children and families, we have ordered booklets - Sign up on ChurchSuite to reserve your copy for just £1.00 (1 per family).
For adults, we recommend downloading the app, #LiveLent (not available until the week beginning 17 Feb), signing up for the daily emails or keeping an eye out for social media posts. There is also an adult/youth version of the booklet, which you could order from the Church of England website. Find out more at churchofengland.org/livelent.
We hope that we can use this period leading up to Easter to enrich our faith and deepen our prayer lives together. Join us this year as we #LiveLent!
